Synopsis
God is love.
The Seminarian is a story about Ryan, a closeted gay student in his final semester of seminary studies. Despite his school's hostile stance towards homosexuality, Ryan has two gay classmates - Gerald and Anthony - in whom he secretly confides. He is also close to his religiously devout mother who, as things stand, is unaware of his sexual orientation. Ryan needs to complete a solid theological thesis in order to continue doctoral work at the university of his dreams. As he works on his thesis 'The Divine Gift of Love,' Ryan begins a relationship with Bradley - a guy he has met on the Internet who seems perpetually unable to commit himself. Ryan confides in Gerald and Anthony, only to learn about their romantic struggles as well. Consequently, Ryan questions his views on God's gift of love.

It was fine. Nothing to hate. It's just meh! and I'm not a fan of "God is Love" bs. God's love kills millions innocent people.

Men will literally go to seminary instead of going to therapy

most boring thing I ever watched. Eating pencils seems like a more interesting and deep activity than whatever this was. Or even observing some rocks.

The only problem I have besides the bad work with the sound is Ryan wearing flip-flops everywhere he goes.

All of these actors had to have started in porn (not a compliment)

Here's my thesis: This probably would've been much better as a short, than a feature. Like maybe 5-10 minutes short.
The 100~ minutes include 90% fluff, already factoring in the erotic scenes, which also weren't much. It was sacrilegious softcore clickbait, and I was a divinely disappointed sucker.
Also, if a director took it upon himself to include a few scenes discussing the intersection of love and theology, by all means, have a fucking Symposium, not a few quick quips lifted from Wikipedia or Instagram. ESPECIALLY if the protagonist keeps bringing up his MASTERS THESIS that he needs to perfect to get into YALE.
Speaking of the protagonist, Ryan is probably the most naive, (supposedly) intelligent gay onscreen character I've…

filme mais leve do que eu esperava (esperava altos conflitos de identidade e tal). o ritmo é lento e a atmosfera é bem cotidiana, o que dá certo realismo ao roteiro. bem agradável de ver.

I have an answer.
There is an essential question underlying writer/director Joshua Lim's The Seminarian, a drama about a closeted gay seminarian struggling to deal with the pain of unrequited love and his own ability to tell his own mother the truth.
"If love is a gift from God and love entails great suffering, then what does that say about God?"
I have an answer.
It's simple, really. Love does not entail great suffering, or so I believe. I believe that what entails great suffering is not love, but how we as human beings attempt to express that which is inherently divine. When we are giving and receiving love, our suffering ends. When our humanity gets in the way, and…

This was so, so . . . dull. There were too many characters, and the dialogue was only slightly better than Tommy Wiseau's infamous script for The Room. The film attempts to tackle important questions related to the intersection of faith and sexuality, but never manages to get beyond the surface of these questions. This is honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Another gay movie, not as good as others.
